![]() will all file formats be supported in this scenario? Ideally this setup will support the same list of media formats as any current NMT. So, ideally, I would like a NAS device to host all media files, and PS3 to be able to stream the files off the NAS. I would like to avoid that as much as possible. The downside is that this requires my PC to be on. Currently I am getting around this by using an open source ps3mediaserver application. Limitations: PS3 does not fully support the most popular audio / video media formats. I have a D-Link DIR-655 router currently. In the setup I am trying to come up, I would like to use PS3 as a streaming device and a NAS unit. I need help to build an optimal home AV distribution network with my PS3 used as a streaming device. Thank you gentlemen for hosting such a resourceful website. Otherwise, not so much.Hi, all! My first post on this forum. If you're a heavy cable consumer, it makes sense to run a Myth frontend. TV only very rarely - I am recording the Oscar ceremony this week, for example, but the previous show I recorded was the State of the Union speech. Most of the media stuff I watch is DVD, Blu-Ray, Netflix, online, and home-brew media. I guess my setup reflects the fact that I very rarely watch cable TV, even time-shifted. ![]() I administer the Myth backend via Mythweb from any computer. All that's needed is to rename the file or the symlink (I do it manually, but it can be automated, you can tell MythTV to do it after the show is recorded, I'm just too lazy to do it). The captured shows are just moved to the media share, and shared via UPnP to the PS3. There's a wireless access point also, hooked up to another net port on the Linux server, but that's for the laptops in the house, not for the media gear in the living. Everything is on a wired network, Gigabit Ethernet. The PS3 and the PC are visible, next to the TV (the PC has a nice black case with a blue LCD display with 6 buttons), the Linux server is hidden in a cupboard nearby (hole in the back with a quiet fan for ventilation). I also run the MythTV server there - the tuner is an HDHomeRun.Įverything is in the living room. On that system I put the UPnP server and all the home video, MP3 and JPEG files. I also have a Linux Ubuntu Server computer which is an email server, web server, firewall (it's connected to cable and everything is behind it), DNS and DHCP server, etc. It's nice to browse the Internet on a large plasma screen. the PC is for Windows games, Internet browsing (Chrome), Google Earth, etc.the PS3 is for games, DVD, Blu-Ray, streaming Netflix, and for viewing my photos and home videos like I described above.I've a PS3 and a PC (Win XP) connected to the plasma TV, each one doing its own thing: That's a good idea - if you already have all the MythTV paraphernalia in place: the server, the front-end, the tuner, etc. Got a subreddit you want to see here?
